Character interaction games?

How do (ugh) Hentai games work? How is gameplay handled? I guess that it is a choose your own adventure / multiple choice speech. Am I wrong? If there is more to it please give some examples of how one works. Well how about using Hentai game mechanics for something that isn''t quasi-porn / chatting up non-existant ''girls''. What other genres could we use it for? -Reality TV games, day in the life of an office, interacting with characters being cool, dumb, workaholic etc. -Horror, - do you go into the basement? Tell the others to board up the windows.. seems a bit clumsy. -Police?

You could use it for anything where you have to be persuasive - a game where you try to advance in politics or sell used cars or something like that - think of a tabletop rpg player who attempts feats of charistma all the time. Also for the kind of game where the main character is semi-autonomus and you have to convince them to do things.

I want to help design a "sandpark" MMO. Optional interactive story with quests and deeply characterized NPCs, plus sandbox elements like player-craftable housing and lots of other crafting. If you are starting a design of this type, please PM me. I also love pet-breeding games.

In most Hentai games there isn''t much more to the "gameplay" than a few choose your own adventure style choices, many of the games are just straight click throughs. Basically a good PC RPG or adventure game (Fallout, KOTOR, DOTT, Baldur''s Gate, Deus Ex, etc.) will have a lot more interesting and interactive conversation than your average hentai game. Maybe you should think about how a PC style RPG or adventure game that relies entirely on conversation, rather than combat or puzzles would work?

A game that seems to have some very interesting gameplay mechanics is Tokimeki Memorial (not Hentai, but a dating game.) Unfortuanately it is only available in Japanese, but you can get the feel for various gameplay aspects by reading the faq. The Hentai game True Love (Love Story?) isn''t too far off from Tokimeki in gameplay style and is available in English, but it has some Hentai scenes in it. These game''s gameplay isn''t so interesting because of the character interaction though, but largely because of the stat system.

Games that can be based entirely on characters interaction:

- lawyer game (you may want to see how law and order handles this?)
-spy game (there was that game spy craft...)
-crime game
-media or propaganda game
-as an interesting interface to an empire building strategy game or war game. You simply give orders to and get feedback through some sort of chain of command. This could be interesting because you don''t have the normal near omnipotance you get in these types of games and you also have to deal with people, rather than physically moving units.

Character interaction works well for a persuasive game (sales, dating, politics, law, police), although the game could be about controlling and acquiring information (spying, media) or giving orders (war, crime.)

Some Hentai game use a verb/noun menu system. (ex: click LOOK on the first menu then click ROOM on the menu that follows.) When you get down to it, it''s not much different than many text adventures from the early days of PC gaming. Like Zork or Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. Those games ranged the whole spectrum of genres. I even remember one where you were a white blood cell. (I don''t remember it well, but I seem to have vague recollections of having to go around the body several times because most of the "corridors" were one way. i.e. blood vessels would only take you one direction.)
