I have a small website for free online games, and I was wondering what are some of the best ways to get a website out there and gain more publicity. Any suggestions/tips would be much appreciated. Thanks!

You're asking about marketing, so I'm moving this to Business.

Including a link would be a good first start smile.png

All joking aside, its a lot easier to give advice if we know the target market for your website and games.

Target market is really just about anyone with Internet access who wants to waste time with online games if that's a good way to describe it. Mainly targeted towards PC/Mac desktop platforms. Since games are in-browser.

As for a link www.some-boring-games.weebly.com
(There's not much there as of now)

You need to have a better understanding of, and respect for, your target audience. When you understand and respect your audience, you'll be nearer to doing a better job of marketing to them.

Beware of seo my friend, the geeks that con, and the hands that snatch... </lewis carrol pun>.

No, really. Be very careful with SEO. There are lots of people out there claiming to do it, they will quite happily take your money and sit on it, not really providing anything in return. Some of them might just offer some advice for a smaller set fee (this is usually an OK choice, as they don't go making bad links in to your site on untrustworthy directory sites, launching into blackhat link building campaigns etc).

It's definitely something you need to get a marketing person's help on though, as it's promotion, marketing and advertising, rather than development and it needs the right mindset - you wouldn't hire an artist to do a game's music, would you?

In short, read reviews, don't let some stranger engage in promotion of your website without being extremely clear what theyre going to do, and research everything someone intends to do to "help" you, otherwise months or years down the line you could end up being bitten, penalised by Google for their actions, or worse, on the receiving end of trolling/DDoS attacks because someone decided to fill 4chan with links to your website in a bad attempt to build inbound links (yes, this is a ridiculous extreme example, but you get the point).

Also, much like game development, SEO is a field that changes every week. What is good today might not be good tomorrow, as it is a game of cat and mouse that generally, search engine companies despise being part of. The search engine algorithms are generally trade secrets, and SEO companies are playing the guessing game trying to figure out what is good and what is bad, while the search companies are changing their algorithms daily to combat what the SEO companies know. All search engines these days prefer a more natural search listing, and this goes against the fundamental goals of search engine optimisation.

Good luck!
