Mini games make the game

Ive noticed that games (specifically RPGs) with more sidequests and mini games are usually more sucessful if not more fun than games without them. Take for example the Final Fantasy series, the biggest example being Chrono-trigger (the game is a patch work of quests, which do not all have to be completed).

Chrono Trigger is part of the FF series?

I agree that breaking the game down into ''missions'' or ''quests'' is cool. I hate playing a game where my goal is either unknown or extremely far off with no hint as how to get there.
